Professional Information

Dr. Carena Winters is an expert in the areas of movement as a medicine, exercise physiology, and exercise epidemiology. She has over 20 years’ experience leading health promotion planning and implementation in university and community settings in addition to providing individualized programming. Dr. Winters has a passion for helping people of all abilities create a culture of daily movement for lifetime well-being. 

Dr. Winters launched the Global Exercise is Medicine on Campus (EIM-OC) initiative in May 2009 with Dr. Robert E. Sallis and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and is a member of the Global EIM Advisory Board. In 2019, she was presented with the Exercise is Medicine Global Leadership Award. Dr. Winters is an ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP) with the EIM credential. Her passion is sharing her knowledge of exercise physiology, epidemiology, and the Exercise is Medicine® initiative in the classroom and the community.
