Five events Dolphins should check out during Homecoming & Family Weekend 2019

October 10, 2019

While many of the can’t-miss events of Homecoming & Family Weekend 2019 occur next Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, current Dolphins begin the celebration on Monday, Oct. 14.

There’s a cornhole tournament, Slip ‘N’ Slide kickball, and S’Mores under the stars going on through the week. Then, on Friday, there’s the Parade of Colleges, and, on Saturday, tailgating, and the Hall of Fame induction. That’s not even half of it. Visit our official schedule to see everything that’s happening this year.

Here are some of the events absolutely worth checking out this year, and in some cases, every year.

5. Mock Rock

It’s every student organization, fraternity and sorority for itself in this lip-sync dance battle at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Strom Amphitheater. Last year, Sigma Nu successfully defended its title.

4. Experiential Learning

Dolphins dream big. Even though you originally pursued some other passion, spend a few hours as a nurse, a photographer or an artist during our experiential learning sessions on Friday, Oct. 18. Come experience something new. Live out a new dream. Pre-registration required.

Runners at the finish line.

3. River House Run/Walk 5K

On a beautiful October Saturday around 8:15 a.m., why not take a leisurely stroll around our beautiful campus? Or run. Up to you. Compete for cash prizes or just soak up the views.

2. Saturday on the St. Johns Cookout

Join your friends and classmates from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the cookout where bandleader and founder Paul Jackson Live ’18 and saxophonist/founding member DeAndre Lettsome ’17 bring The Let’s Ride Brass Band and “That Duval Sound” to the beautiful banks of the St. Johns. Pre-registration required.

1. Dolphins Football

By now, are you ready for some football? The Dolphins take on Davidson at 1 p.m. at D.B. Milne Field. If you haven’t already gotten your tickets, order them now. Forever, Phins up!
