Professional Information
Carl Goforth is a retired Navy Captain and former Chief Nursing Officer.
Committed to healthcare excellence, Dr. Goforth joined JU in 2023 as adjunct assistant faculty. Upon his US Navy retirement after 33 years of service, he joined JU full time in 2024. He brings a wealth of clinical experience and worldwide service. Dr. Goforth has deployed to the Middle East multiple times as a critical care / flight RN, including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon earning his PhD in 2016, Dr. Goforth became an integral part of multiple Department of Defense (DoD) research teams, and was hand-selected in 2020 to co-lead a large DoD scientific effort aimed at understanding the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 and how it would impact the United States from a readiness perspective. Dr. Goforth is widely published across multiple healthcare disciplines.
In addition to his Naval Service, Dr. Goforth is active nationally, serving as an editorial board member for the Association for Critical Care Nursing (AACN).
