Orchestra

Under the baton of Dr. Marguerite Richardson, the Jacksonville University Orchestra is a dynamic ensemble that presents four on-campus concerts per year, with additional off-campus performances and opportunities.  Whether seeking a career as a music educator or planning to pursue a performance career, the JU Orchestra prepares students for “real world” orchestral experiences.

The JU Orchestra has recorded sound tracks for the JU Film Department, and regularly collaborates with opera, musical theater, and choral productions, as well as showcasing compositions by faculty and students. Membership is open to both music majors and non-music majors. Repertoire is broad-based, and spans everything from the Baroque to contemporary music, and classical masterworks to “pops.” By including performers from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra on the music faculty, students have the opportunity to receive instruction from these artists at their applied lessons, and then seeing them on stage performing at the symphony hall.

JU music professors include these artists affiliated with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra:

Marguerite Richardson, violin, viola
Scott Watkins, piano
Tony Steve, percussion
Shannon Lockwood, cello
Les Roettges, flute
CHRISTOPHER GRAHAM, TROMBONE
KEVIN KARABELL, TRUMPET
Eric Olson, oboe
