Tenure
May
In May, following the fifth year of service the dean shall notify the eligible faculty member that the must submit their tenure portfolio to the unit administrator by October 15.
October
The candidate prepares a tenure portfolio via Interfolio which provides evidence of the candidate's achievements in the areas of teaching, professional development and scholarship, and service to the University. The portfolio is due by October 15.
November
Prior to December 1, the unit administrator submits to the dean all pre-tenure evaluations, the unit administrator's written evaluation and recommendation for or against tenure, and the results of the vote of the tenured faculty in the unit.
January – May
By January 15 the dean shall submit his or her recommendation to the members of the T&P committee for their review and recommendation. The T&P committee meet to draw up a written evaluation and recommendation for or against tenure. This document is forwarded to the Provost by March 15, the Provost reviews all documentation including the evaluations and recommendations from the dean and the T&P committee and makes a recommendation to the President. The final recommendation by the Provost shall be provided to the candidate by April 15. Upon recommendation of the Provost and the President, the final tenure decision is made by the Board of Trustees.
Tenure goes into effect with the notification of approval by the Board of Trustees.
Promotion
September
Faculty members who wish to be considered for promotion will check to verify that she/he satisfies the criteria by rank set forth in the Faculty Bylaws, Statute IV, Section 1. The faculty member sends a written request for consideration for promotion to the unit administrator no later than the 2nd week of the fall semester.
October
The candidate prepares a promotion portfolio to document all pertinent information in the areas of teaching, professional development and scholarship, and service to the University. This information is submitted via Interfolio. The candidate submits their portfolio no later than October 15.
November – December
Prior to December 1, the unit administrator submits to the dean a written recommendation for or against promotion.
January – May
By January 15, the dean shall submit his or her recommendation to the T&P committee for their review and recommendation. The Committee on Tenure and Promotion shall review all materials and make their recommendation to the Provost by March 15. The Provost reviews all documentation including the evaluations and recommendations made by the dean and the T&P committee and makes a recommendation to the President.
The promotion decision is made by the President. This recommendation does not need approval by the Board of Trustees.
Compensated Leave
When financially feasible, the University shall provide for leaves of absence with pay. The faculty member must be tenured at the time of application. The faculty member may apply for one semester at full-pay, or two semesters at half-pay, or two semesters at full pay with half-time teaching load. A faculty member becomes eligible to apply for leave with pay after a minimum of five consecutive years of service at Jacksonville University. Faculty will submit a proposal via Interfolio outlining their plan to the unit administrator and to the Faculty Affairs Committee one (1) full year prior to the leave start date.
